If there was ever a puzzle to bring with you on a deserted island, this would be Kubiya’s top choice - you’ll need all the free time you can get!
Generation Lock is a sequential puzzle that, unlike most locks, requires no key! Instead, there are eight sliding, metal pins that can only be moved horizontally in a sequential order. The lock also contains wooden, sliding panels inside that look like a maze. These panels only move vertically, in the opposite direction. In order to solve the puzzle and open the lock handle, all eight pegs must be navigated through their special mazes by combining movements between the pegs and the panels, back and forth.
Be warned, there are a minimum of 341,718,750 moves required to open the lock! As the name implies, it might take a generation (or two) to open the lock. Assuming you work around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and average 2 seconds per move - the puzzle would still take 21.6 years to solve. Designed by the master puzzler himself, Jean Claude Constantin, and co-branded with Kubiya Japan, this may be our most convoluted puzzle yet!
